Direct shower spray at the chest level, away from the face.
Be sure to shield the tracheostomy tube from the water.
Keep soap and water away from the tracheostomy tube and stoma when washing.
Shield the tracheostomy tube and breathing circuit when shaving or using powders, hair spray, or any personal care products around the face and neck.
Be sure that water never enters the breathing circuit.
Remember that a sponge bath is a fast and easy alternative to the shower or bath and can be done using a wash cloth.
Don’t let the ventilator or electric cords get wet.
