Getting released from the hospital

Patients with a ventilator must meet the following criteria before going home:

  • Breathing function is stable (airway (i.e. trach tube), oxygenation, and ventilation (i.e. settings, modes, breath types) and adequate to meet the patient’s needs
  • Both patient and caregivers clearly understand the disease process and care plan

Your caregiver is there to help

Patients need caregivers to help them maintain their health at home

Caregivers can help with:
  • Nutrition
  • Rehabilitation therapy (physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory)
  • Skin care
  • Mobility
  • Activities for daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting)
  • Airway care (i.e. suctioning, changing the trach tube and inner cannulas, etc.)
